English in the Field Student Reception

We'd like to invite you to attend an event called "English in the Field" on Friday Oct. 12 from 2-3pm in UCSB South Hall 2635, which will feature short presentations from undergrad English-Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration joint interns followed by a reception.

"English in the Field" was made possible by an Arnhold Collaborative Research Grant to start a pilot internship program for English Majors with the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration (CCBER). The students developed unique projects that emerged from balancing work for CCBER with their own research/writing time. Projects included an exploration of butterflies in the works of Vladimir Nabokov, a digital poetics piece inspired by Cheadle Center field work for ecological restoration, a cli-fi piece thinking about California in the midst of an ecological disaster, and more!

We've set up a process where any English major can apply to intern at Cheadle Center for a quarter, supervised by a graduate student mentor of their choice. If you are a grad student who might be interested in such a role in the future, please come to the event to learn more! Poster attached below.
